Topic: Looking for Substitutes for Propecia - Any Suggestions?
Posted by: HealthyHairHope (21 mins ago)
Hi everyone,
I've been using Propecia for a while now to help with my hair loss. It's worked pretty well, but I'm looking into other options because of the cost and some concerns about side effects. Are there any natural or alternative substitutes that people have tried and had success with? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Hey HealthyHairHope,
I totally understand your concern! I've been there too. There are a few options you might want to consider:
- Minoxidil (Rogaine): This is FDA-approved and comes in foam or liquid form. It can help regrow hair on the scalp.
- Saw Palmetto: A natural supplement that has shown some promise for reducing DHT, which contributes to hair loss.
- Follicle-Stimulating Supplements: These usually contain biotin, vitamin E, zinc, and other nutrients known to support healthy hair growth.
I've personally used Minoxidil and saw good results without the side effects of Propecia. Hope this helps!

Hello HealthyHairHope,
I was on Propecia for about a year but stopped due to concerns over long-term use. Here are some alternatives that you might find useful:
- DUTCH CHAMOMILE: It has been used in traditional medicine as an effective remedy to reduce hair loss and stimulate new growth.
- MACA ROOT: This supplement is known for its ability to balance hormones, which can help with hair loss.
I started using maca root after I stopped Propecia and have seen a noticeable difference in my hair thickness. It's important to note that results vary from person to person, but it’s worth giving these alternatives a try!

Hello HealthyHairHope,
As a doctor, here are some suggestions for substitutes you might consider:
- Spironolactone: This is an antihypertensive drug that can be prescribed off-label to treat hair loss in women due to its anti-androgen properties.
- Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT): Devices like the Theradome are FDA-cleared for treating male and female pattern baldness.
- Finasteride Alternatives: There’s also a newer medication called Kynthei, which is another version of finasteride that might be available in different dosages or formulations.
I would recommend discussing these options with your healthcare provider to determine what's best for you based on your medical history and current health status. Always ensure any supplement or drug you choose to use is safe and doesn't interfere with other medications you may be taking.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks so much AlopeciaAlly, BaldNoMore, and DocHair! Your suggestions are really helpful. I think I'll start by looking into Minoxidil and maybe give maca root a try as well. Will keep you all posted on how it goes!
